A practical guide to Oregon stormwater maintenance PORTLAND METRO · OREGON
CITY OF PORTLAND

Portland
stormwater guidance.

City of Portland Environmental Services provides maintenance guidance for properties with stormwater management facilities and inspection letters.

A PRACTICAL CHECKLIST

Where to start

01

Read your letter and its action items

Portland says required corrective work and routine maintenance outlined in the letter matter for compliance with your operations and maintenance (O&M) plan. Follow any property-specific deadlines in your notice.

02

Find your recorded O&M plan

Plans may be recorded with the property deed. If you cannot locate yours, the City says its maintenance inspection program can help identify your facility and the relevant plan.

03

Identify your facility type

Vegetated facilities include rain gardens, basins, and planters; structural facilities can include stormwater filters and manholes. Different maintenance techniques may apply.

04

Hire appropriately qualified help if needed

The City maintains lists for vegetated and structural/mechanical work. The City does not recommend, certify or guarantee the work of independent contractors.

05

Document work and confirm closure

Keep notes, photographs, invoices and inspection documentation. Contact the inspector about required follow-up or whether you must send confirmation.

Published maintenance guidance

The City lists vegetated-facility thresholds including vegetation coverage and blocked inlets. They are general guidance, not a substitute for your specific O&M plan. Structural and mechanical facilities can have manufacturer-specific requirements.
